VF8 vs Lyriq

The VinFast VF8 is being seen as a good luxury EV that doesn’t break the bank. Compared to most other luxury electric vehicles on the market, the VF8 is not just a bargain but also continues to get better and better with over-the-air (OTA) updates.

VF8 Power and Performance

The VinFast VF8 features two trim levels for buyers: the base Eco and the Plus trim. Both models have an 87.7 kWh dual-motor battery pack with standard all-wheel drive, which are two things that are typically optional in most EVs. The Eco trim has 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque that can get owners from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. Stepping up to the Plus trim gives buyers 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque and will reach 60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds.

Cadillac Power and Performance

Cadillac’s Lyriq EV comes standard with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive optional. The RWD model comes with 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, while AWD models have 500 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. This makes the Cadillac faster than the VF8 to 60 mph, which takes 5.7 seconds in RWD form and 4.6 seconds with AWD according to Car and Driver.

Pricing For Both EVs

For 2024, the base Cadillac Lyriq Tech RWD has a starting MSRP of $58,590, which swells to $62,090 for a standard Tech trim with all-wheel drive. The VinFast VF8, on the other hand, has a base MSRP of just $46,000 for an Eco model and $51,800 for the Plus model. When leasing, buyers can get the Eco nationwide for just $249 a month with $999 down for 36 months or $299 per month for the Plus. Cadillac is currently offering the Lyriq Tech AWD for $479 a month for 24 months, with $4,899 due at signing.

Sony RIDEVU

All VinFast vehicles also come equipped with something that the Cadillac can’t have: RIDEVU, which is a partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment that provides the ability to stream thousands of shows and movies from Sony’s collection to be watched straight on the in-car 15.6-inch infotainment screen, or via a laptop, smartphone, or tablet that is connected to the vehicle’s WiFi.

Quite Possibly the Best Warranty in The World

The pièce de resistance with all VinFast vehicles is the electric battery system warranty. The Cadillac Lyriq EV comes with an 8-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty system, which is pretty standard in the industry. However, VinFast takes this up a notch and gives owners a 10-year, unlimited-mile warranty for the battery system.

The VinFast VF8 Is The First Honest EV

Car manufacturers are synonymous with using flowery language and various tactics to get you into the dealership to buy or lease a new car, truck, or SUV. The problem is that they will advertise the price of a car and you’ll think, “Wow, what a great price!” only to be surprised when you get to the dealership and notice that great price is for a base car that has maybe two options. In order to get the vehicle pictured you’ll need to add about $10,000 or more to the purchase price.

VinFast Believes In Getting Your Money’s Worth

VinFast does not believe in this practice, as all of their cars are well optioned, even for the base models. Take, for instance, the VF8, which comes in two different trim levels: Eco and Plus. VinFast VF8 Interior Prioritizes the Driver

Cars in the modern era feature so many different distractions for drivers. There’s an infotainment screen, sometimes a thousand buttons, or an extra screen in place of the buttons. Then, there is an entire gauge cluster display, a thousand chimes, and bongs that all mean something different. The VinFast VF8, however, prioritizes the driver and their comfort.

One Screen to Rule Them All

Instead of a mile of displays across the dashboard, the VF8 gives the driver and passenger just one screen to worry about, a standard 15.6-inch touchscreen display that not only shows all of the pertinent information while driving but also the ability to customize the display and what apps and widgets you prefer to be displayed and where on the screen. It is very much like an iPhone or Android smartphone. This way, you know exactly where to reach when you need to go into a program like your navigation maps or search through your podcasts and music.

Also standard on all VinFast VF8 trim levels is a beautiful head-up display that gives drivers precisely what they need to see. This includes the vehicle’s speed, range, navigation information, and more. A HUD is the ultimate safety feature that so few EVs include. For instance, Rivian, VW, and others do not offer a head-up as standard, nor is it even an optional extra on any of their electric models. Statistically speaking, when there is less need to look around the cabin of your vehicle or just glance down at your speed for a second, there are fewer chances that you will be involved in a traffic accident.

Sony RIDEVU

Another feature that is overlooked is in-car entertainment. With RIDEVU by Sony Pictures Entertainment, your VF8 becomes a movie theater for all occupants. If the vehicle is parked, you can watch up to 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows right on the in-car display. While driving, passengers can use the in-car WiFi to access the RIDEVU app on their phone, tablet, or laptop to watch content. Another fact is that there is less noise and distractions from passengers, which also drastically reduces the number of accidents on the roads.

VF8 vs Rivian R1S

The VinFast VF8 may be new to the market, but it’s quickly making a name for itself as a true potential contender against other EV SUVs and crossovers that have been on the market for longer. Buying or leasing a new car should always come down to personal preference. The VF8 offers a lot of bang for the buck compared to everything else on the road.

Trim Levels and Battery Pack

There are two trim levels for the VF8, the base Eco and the Plus trim, and both models feature an 87.7 kWh dual-motor battery pack with standard all-wheel drive, which are two things that are typically optional in most EVs. In our last comparison article, we looked at how the VF8 stacks up against the Volkswagen ID.4, and you can say with confidence that the VinFast had the upper hand. This time, we are looking at the Rivian R1S, a capable EV SUV.

Meet The Rivian R1S

The Rivian comes in 5 different trim levels: The Adventure Dual Standard, Adventure Dual LaMax, and Ascend Quad Max. There is a range of horsepower and torque numbers, from 533 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque for the base model, 850 horsepower and 1,103 lb-ft of torque, to 1,025 horses and 1,198 torque. The base model Dual Standard has a dual motor with all-wheel drive with a 92.5 kWh battery.

How Much Do Both EVs Cost?

Price is always a talking point, and with the VinFast VF8, the Eco starts from $46,000, while the Plus has a base price of just $51,800. The base Rivian Adventure Dual Standard has a base price of $75,900. For that price, you would hope that your EV will have a ton of range, but the R1S can go 258 miles on a full charge or 270 miles with special 22-inch wheels that are a $2,000 option. The VF8, on the other hand, can drive 264 miles in Eco trim and 243 miles with the Plus trim.

Just Speedy Enough

No one will confuse the VF8 for being a speed demon. With 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque in the Eco, you can get from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. Stepping up to the Plus trim gives buyers 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque and will reach 60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds. The Rivian is faster. The Adventure Dual Standard can go from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. However, looking at the numbers, it seems odd that the Rivian has 131 more horsepower and 153 more torque than the VF8 Plus and is just a second quicker to 60. You would expect it to be much faster. Where is all of that power going?

Excellent Tech

Both VF8 models feature a 15.6-inch touchscreen that controls everything in the vehicle, allowing drivers and passengers to have everything they want or need at their fingertips. A beautiful and bright head-up display is also standard on all models, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both Eco and Pro models feature two USB-A ports up front, two USB-A ports, and one USB-C port for rear passengers to keep all devices charged.

The Rivian Doesn’t Have What Now?!

None of the Rivian R1S models have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, nor does it have a heads-up display. For nearly $80,000, you don’t get a key piece of safety technology to keep your eyes on the road.

Sony RIDEVU

Another key feature that the Rivian lacks is RIDEVU, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s all-new in-car entertainment service, which is free for all VinFast owners with the VF Connect Package. All passengers can stream the same or different content to their iPhone or Android device while in the car. If the vehicle is parked, the content can be streamed on the central display for all to see.

No matter the trim level you choose, the VF8 has everything you need regarding safety.
