Top 5 tips for road-tripping in your VinFast EV

VinFast V8 at the Camp Site

VinFast V8 at the Camp SiteSome people may think that taking a road trip in an electric vehicle is a very risky or scary task. However, just like with a gas-powered car, if you plan accordingly and understand where and how long you will have to stop to charge along the way, it really isn’t much different than driving a non-EV.

VinFast VF89 Wheel Detail1: Plan Your Trip Using the Car’s Navigation System

Luckily, the VinFast VF8 also makes it easy to plan a road trip by simply inputting your destination into the in-car navigation system that will take into account charging stations and intervals to ensure you don’t have to get range anxiety along the way. And don’t worry, charging from 10% battery up to 70% takes just 31 minutes. Timing your charging stops with bathroom and eating breaks will help pass the time more quickly.

While an EV doesn’t need most traditional services, such as an oil change, it is still crucial to check that your tires are in good shape, or if they need to be rotated, you should do that before your trip. Tires are not only important for ride quality or traction in poor weather conditions, but also to braking and driving range. Tires that are over or underinflated can have quite an impact on driving range and stopping distances, as well as overall ride quality.

New Vinfast VF8 Plus Navigation System3: Have The VinFast Mobile App Downloaded with Payment Attached

The VinFast mobile app allows users to basically go up to any EV charging station and get started without having to first download that charging company’s app. However, you should make sure that the app is updated and that you have a good form of payment attached to the app so that you can easily pay for your charging. Most other car companies don’t have any of the charging stations’ apps featured in their app. However, the VinFast app does. This way, you only need one app to charge your car versus having half a dozen with your credit card information attached to all of them.

Head Up Display in the Vinfast VF84: Use Your Cruise Control as Much as Possible

One of the best ways to maximize your range and driving efficiency is to utilize your cruise control system. Thanks to the cruise control, it can handle acceleration and braking for you as well as steering to keep you in your respective lane. Using these systems helps the vehicle maintain one speed that won’t fluctuate as often. The more you are on and off of the accelerator, the more energy you are using. If you are in traffic, the regenerative braking system will help to return some of the energy lost and convert it to range.

VinFast VF8 on The Road Front View5: Chill With the AC Usage

Too much use of the air conditioning system can have negative impacts on range. For instance, a 2019 study by AAA said that running the air conditioning at the highest speed for long periods has as much as a 17% impact on your range. Before driving off, you should properly cool your interior while charging for about 5-10 minutes before driving off. From there, you can leave the system in eco or auto modes to help maintain a proper temperature and fan speed that won’t reduce your driving range.

VinFast Modern Production Line

Vinfast VF8 Production Line

Vinfast VF8 Production LineDesigning, engineering, and manufacturing cars is not an easy thing to do. It is a time-consuming, demanding, and expensive process from start to finish. As a young company just starting, it can also be challenging to find qualified and loyal employees who can do their best to make the right product. VinFast is rapidly becoming known for its modern production line, which features fewer people and more robots to help streamline the production process.

New Massive Production Facility

In September 2017, VinFast opened its state-of-the-art 828-acre manufacturing plant, where roughly 90% of its automotive production is automated. This plant, in particular, will serve as the main production headquarters for years to come, with the goal of producing 950,000 vehicles by 2026.

Vinfast VF8 Production LineRobots Save Time and Money

People mess up; it is a natural part of being human. However, robots do not. While there still needs to be employees at VinFast factories who help to design software and input information that tells the robots what to do, ultimately, they are perfect in their execution of a given task. Plus, it can save time and money when retooling or adjusting manufacturing techniques for new models or simple model changes and modifications.

Vinfast VF8 Production LineFewer People Means Fewer Injuries

Because of the streamlined process of robot production, VinFast is hoping for, and so far succeeding at, having fewer production issues, which will often wreak havoc on a young or small car company and even larger companies during the first year of a new model. Fewer people on the production line also means a much lower rate of incidents where someone could get injured. Automotive manufacturing facilities are filled with heavy machinery that is constantly moving. There are heavy vehicles going through the assembly process. Accidents happen. With robots, that isn’t as much of an issue.

Vinfast VF8 Production LineNew Production Facilities

As of now, all current vehicle production is taking place in Haiphong, Vietnam, with battery production in Ha Tinh, Vietnam. VinFast is also expanding a new production facility in North Carolina. The capacity to manufacture up to 150,000 vehicles per year in America will greatly assist VinFast in achieving its future goals and success.

What Are The Details Of The VinFast 10-year 125K Mile Warranty?

Person using Vinfast app on their smartphone with blue Vinfast in background.

VinFast offers the absolute best warranty on all of their new cars. When compared with other legacy automakers, you would think such a young company wouldn’t be willing or able to guarantee their batteries’ overall quality and performance. While buying an electric vehicle is a learning experience when it comes to purchasing or leasing based on range, features, options, style, and, of course, warranty, VinFast aims to put customers at ease knowing they are taken care of.

A Decade With Two Warranties

Whether you are looking at the soon-to-be-released VF7, VF9, or the currently available VF8, every new car has a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty. Both of these warranties are transferable to the next owner should you choose to sell or trade your car or if owners decide to hand their VinFast down to their children for a safe, reliable electric vehicle. The pair of 10-year warranties also entitles customers to free 24/7 mobile service.

All-Encompassing Mobile App

The all-in-one VinFast mobile app for Apple and Android devices allows owners to schedule service appointments, check the status of their booking, as well as approve any potential repairs that need to be done. In addition to service and warranty features, the mobile app also allows owners to plan a trip that will enable them to easily find chargers on the way, pay for charging built into the app, as well as check the state of charge.

Comparing The Coverage To Others

When comparing the VinFast warranty coverage to other automakers, you will see that all EV models on the market have a pretty good warranty. The best you will see from most EVs from Chevrolet, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Honda, Audi, Jaguar, and the like, is about 4-5 years up to about 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and ten years or up to 155,000 miles of warranty for the battery system. Every VinFast model comes with a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty. There is no EV company quite like VinFast when it comes to taking care of customers’ needs in the next decade.

The VinFast VF8 Against The Rest

Red Vinfast VF8 driving outside Vinfast dealership.

Even though the 2024 VinFast VF8 is new to the market, it has plenty of tricks up its sleeve and a lot of great standard features that put it right up against some of the best electric vehicles out today. With good power, features, and technology for a good price, the VF8 may be new, but it’s mature.

Features Like No Other

Buying a new EV can be daunting for newcomers to the electric car world. There are lots of options from many automakers. The VinFast VF8 has a base price of $47,325, with fully loaded models hitting $55,000, which is the price of some base EVs in this segment. There are a host of brilliant safety and technology features, including being the only vehicle in its class with Sony RIDEVU, a revolutionary way to watch over 2,000 Sony movies on your car’s infotainment screen or your smartphone.

Standard AWD and Dual Motors

Each VF8 model, whether you buy the Eco or Plus trim, comes with standard all-wheel drive and an 87.7 kWh dual-motor battery system. All-wheel drive and a dual-motor battery pack are optional on the new Honda Prologue, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 6, Kona, Kia EV6, Volkswagen ID.4, and the Chevrolet Blazer EV. Once you option all-wheel drive and two motors, all of those cars also have a higher base price than the VF8.

A Superior Price and Features Than The Volkswagen ID.4

The VinFast VF8 has a good amount of range for buyers, with the base model having an EPA-estimated 264 miles, which is quite a bit more than the standard Volkswagen ID.4 with just 209 miles and rear-wheel drive. If you want all-wheel drive, ID.4 buyers have to spend roughly an extra $10,000, and the range only jumps to 263. The ID.4 with all-wheel drive has a base MSRP of $50,180 before any options are added, which is about $3,000 more than a well-optioned VF8. Unlike the Volkswagen, which can only tow up to 2,700 lbs in higher trim levels, all VF8 models can tow up to 4,000 lbs when properly equipped.

Faster Than Most For Less

The VinFast is not meant to be a speed demon like some EVs out there. However, it still will get up and go, with a 0-60 mph time of just 5.0 seconds, which is not only faster than the previously mentioned Volkswagen ID.4’s 7.3 seconds, but also quicker than the Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and Kona EV, as well as the Chevrolet Blazer EV RS’s 6.0 seconds. Amazingly, the VinFast is less expensive than the Chevy’s base price of over $50,000 before adding any options. The VF8 comes standard with a head-up display. However, that is a $2,620 option for the Blazer EV.

Premium Without The Price

The new 2024 Acura ZDX has 278 miles of EV range, which is a little more than the VinFast VF8’s 264 miles. However, the base model’s $64,500 starting price is $18,000 premium, so is that really worth 14 extra miles?

A Warranty That’s Second To None

All of the EV models on the market have a pretty good warranty. The best you will see from most EVs from Chevrolet, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Honda, Audi, Jaguar, and the like is about 4-5 years up to about 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and ten years or up to 155,000 miles of warranty for the battery system. Every VinFast model comes with a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty. That is the pièce de résistance that absolutely no one can compete with.
