VF8 vs VF9: Which Is Best for You?

VinFast VF9 Front Side View

VinFast is quickly making strides to provide electric vehicles for enthusiasts and first-time EV customers with two excellent options for those looking for a variety of SUV sizes. The VF8 is the smaller yet more cost-conscious vehicle in the range, while the VF9 is a larger vehicle that not only comfortably seats up to eight people but also offers a bit more for the extra money you’re spending. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers to see which one is truly the best fit for you.

VinFast VF9 Front Side ViewThe VF9

As mentioned before, the VF9 Eco is an 8-passenger EV SUV. However, it does have the option to seat seven when buying the top-of-the-line Plus trim level. Plus models feature second-row captain’s chairs for extra comfort for rear passengers. VinFast says that Eco models will give owners 330 miles of driving range, and the Plus model offers 291 miles. With such a good range, the VF9 is able to compete well against both gas and electric SUVs alike. Both models come standard with dual motors, a 123-kWh battery, and all-wheel drive with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque.

New VinFast VF8 Front View While DrivingThe VF8

VF8 is also available in just two trims to keep the confusion and guessing game out of buying your VinFast. Eco trim levels have a base price of $47,325, and the Plus trim starts from $51,800. Both trims have dual motors with 87.7-kWh batteries that give Eco models 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque for the Plus trims. This is a very healthy amount of power and torque, giving customers plenty of get-up-and-go while not having so much horsepower that it wastes battery usage. VinFast says the VF8 can get from 0-60 mph in just 5.9 seconds with the Eco and 5.5 in the Plus. The EPA says drivers can expect 264 miles for Eco models and 243 miles for Plus models between charges.

New VinFast VF9 Interior Dash ViewCharging Times for Both Vehicles

When it comes to charging times, both offer fast charging, whether at home or on the go. For owners charging at a Level 3 DC fast charger, the VF8 will go from 10% to 70% charge in just 31 minutes, while the VF9 takes a tad longer at 35 minutes for the same percentage.

New VinFast VF8 FrunkThe VinFast Home Charger

Most buyers will be charging their cars at home, and VinFast even offers its own charger that can be purchased for $599 and easily installed by a qualified professional. The charger features a max power of 12kW, or 240 volts and 50 amps. The VinFast charger gives owners the flexibility of using WiFi, Bluetooth, or Ethernet to connect to the charger and monitor the vehicle’s state of charge. Using the VinFast mobile app, the vehicle’s state of charge can be tracked easily from anywhere. As a Level 2 charger, the VinFast Home Charger is eight times faster than plugging the vehicle into a standard 120-volt wall outlet.

New VinFast VF8 Rear Cargo ViewInterior Capacities

Both vehicles are good-sized crossover SUVs and have plenty of space for either a single household, people with pets, young families, or families that are bursting at the seams with kids and stuff. The 2024 VF8 features 13.2 cu-ft of space behind the second row of seats and 48.4 when they’re folded, and 2.7 cubes of space in the front trunk or frunk. Since the VF9 can seat up to eight people, it obviously has a bit more room and capacity. With the third row in place, customers will have 7.48 cu.ft. of trunk space and 32.7 cu.ft. with the third row folded.

New VinFast VF9 FrunkInfotainment and One-of-a-Kind Entertainment

The VF8 and VF9 each offer customers a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with a standard Head-Up Display (HUD). As you may have seen in our comparisons between the VF8 and other EVs on the market, the HUD seems to be an option that most automakers don’t seem to find important because only a couple of different vehicles even have a HUD as an option, with most not featuring the technology at all. Something else that other automakers can’t say their vehicle has is Sony RIDEVU. Sony Pictures Entertainment provides RIDEVU as a way of giving VinFast customers the ability to watch 2,000 different Sony-owned movies and TV shows either on the main 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the vehicle is in park, or on any device that is attached to the in-car WiFi system.

Leasing Specials and Warranties

No matter which vehicle is best for you, both offer good lease specials to entice new buyers. You can walk into Ewing VinFast of Plano right now and lease a VF8 Eco for just $199 per month for 36 months with $0 down and 10,000 miles per year, or for just $249 per month, you can get the top-of-the-line Plus trim. The Vietnamese electric car manufacturer is offering the VF9 to customers for just $529 per month with $2,000 down on a 24-month lease. Don’t forget that VinFast also offers the absolute best warranty for any EV or non-EV on the market, with a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.

VinFast VF9 Versus Kia EV9

VinFast VF9 Front Side View

VinFast VF9 Front Side ViewWell, we’re back, this time comparing the latest VinFast EV SUV, the VF9, against a formidable opponent, the Kia EV9. While the three-row Kia EV9 has been around for a year now, it’s still a very new kid on the block. And while the VF9 is just going on sale, the three-row electric SUV from VinFast is hitting the market with a ton of standard safety equipment, very useful features, and no doubt the best warranty of any EV.

Vinfast VF9 Front Grille ViewWhat Is the EV9 About?

The Kia EV9 gives customers five different trim levels to decide between, the need to choose between rear- and all-wheel drive, as well as two different motor options. The base model EV9 Light has rear-wheel drive and develops 215 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque with a 76.1-kWh battery pack, which Kia says is good for 230 miles of range. Stepping up to the Long Range trim gives buyers a 99.8-kWh battery that is good for 304 miles. The Wind, Land, and GT-Line trims feature the same 99.8-kWh battery but with e-AWD. Each output 379 combined horsepower from the front and rear motors and up to 516 lb-ft of torque. The range of the Wind and Land is 280 miles, with the GT-Line driving for 270 miles. While Kia gives potential buyers lots of options, VinFast tries to make things easier for buyers.

The VinFast VF9 offers buyers the ability to choose between two trim levels, Eco and Plus. The Eco offers 330 miles of range while the Plus has 291 miles of range. No matter the model you choose, both come standard with dual motors, a 123-kWh battery, and all-wheel drive with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. Unlike most SUVs on the market, the VF9 comes standard with a Head-Up Display (HUD), a feature that is only on the top-of-the-line EV9 GT-Line trim.

VinFast VF9 Seating ViewLeasing and Charging the VF9

For those looking to buy or lease the VF9 Plus, you can choose between a second-row bench or captain’s chairs, allowing for seating of six or seven passengers. The VF9 can charge from 10% to 70% in just 35 minutes with a Level 3 DC fast charger. Most buyers will be charging their cars at home, and VinFast offers its own charger that can be purchased for $599 and easily installed by a qualified professional. VinFast VF9 ChargingSony RIDEVU Is Unique to VinFast

The VF9 has one major surprise up its sleeve with a feature that no other brand offers: Sony RIDEVU. RIDEVU is Sony Pictures Entertainment’s way of giving VinFast customers the ability to watch 2,000 different Sony-owned movies and TV shows either on the main 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the vehicle is in park, or on any device that is attached to the in-car WiFi system.

VinFast VF9 Cargo SpaceA Warranty Like No Other

Kia is well known for offering buyers a great warranty on its gas model cars. However, when it comes to its electric offerings, the Korean car manufacturer can’t really come close to VinFast. The EV9 comes with a 4-year, 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with a 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain/battery warranty. VinFast offers its customers a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.

VinFast VF9: What Makes This Stand Out in A Crowd

VinFast VF9 Front Side View

VinFast VF9 Front Side ViewVinFast is fast becoming one of the go-to electric vehicle companies. The company’s first three-row SUV, the VF9, is soon to arrive at Ewing VinFast, which means we need to take some time to introduce this model to customers properly. While the VF8 has quickly become one of the best EVs on the market, the VF9 looks to increase buyers’ options within the VinFast family.

VinFast VF9 Seat View with Roof ViewTrim Levels and Power

The VF9 is available in two trim levels, Eco and Plus. Eco models will give owners 330 miles of range, with the Plus model offering 291 miles, which means that as a larger, 3-row SUV, the VF9 can compete with some of the best electric and gas-powered vehicles of similar size. Both models come standard with dual motors, a 123 kWh battery, and all-wheel drive with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. Unlike most SUVs on the market, the VF9 comes standard with a Head-Up Display (HUD), so drivers never have to take their eyes off the road to see navigation information, range, music, etc.

Both trim levels offer a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen display that comes with Sony RIDEVU. This allows anyone in the VF9 to watch 2,000 different Sony-owned movies and TV shows either on the main infotainment screen when the vehicle is in park or on any device that is attached to the in-car WiFi system. There are six standard USB-A ports with one 90-watt USB-C port, which means two per row. When captain’s chairs are optioned, passengers will find two extra USB-A ports in the center console.

Dollars and Sense – VF9 vs. Grand Highlander Hybrid vs. XC90 PHEV

VinFast VF9 Front View

VinFast VF9 Front ViewThe VinFast VF9 will be arriving at dealers soon, and like the VF8, there are plenty of reasons why you should lease or buy one. Starting with a base MSRP of $69,800 for the Eco trim and $73,800 for the Plus, up to 330 miles of range, a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty that is the best in the industry, standard Head-Up Display, standard all-wheel drive, and a lease special of $529 per month for 24 months with just $2,000 down.

Standard Features on the VF9

While there is still some information to come, the VinFast VF9 has two trim levels, Eco and Plus, and three rows with the capacity to handle up to seven passengers. The second-row passengers can adjust their seats up to four different ways, and there are up to 8 USB-A ports with a single 90-watt USB-C charging port for rear passengers.

Front Dash View in the VinFast VF9Safety Is Most Important

Both VF9 trim levels come standard with Traffic Jam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Centering Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, Intelligent Speed Recognition, Traffic Sign Recognition, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Door Opening Warning, Front Automatic Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keep Assist, Front Parking Assist, Rear Parking Assist, backup camera, Automatic High Beam, and a 360-degree Surround View Camera system. All VinFast VF9 models feature 11 airbags as standard safety equipment.

VinFast VF9 SeatingToyota Grand Highlander Hybrid

Toyota’s Grand Highlander Hybrid is the company’s largest SUV to date and starts from $46,415 for the base XLE front-wheel drive model. However, the Hybrid Max Platinum is more suited to compare against the VF9 with its loaded price of $64,264. While you may be thinking, “Why are you comparing a hybrid Toyota SUV to an electric VinFast?” There is an easy answer. You see, Toyota currently doesn’t have any purchase or lease specials for the Grand Highlander Hybrid, which means that people are paying full price. For a vehicle that is nearly $65,000, putting $5,000 down, whether in cash or as a trade, equals out to be about $1,200 per month for five years.

VinFast VF9 Rear Cargo SpaceVolvo XC90 Recharge

The Volvo XC90 Recharge PHEV starts at $73,195 for the Core T8 AWD plug-in, which can drive up to 32 miles at a full charge. The Recharge has a 14.7 kWh battery pack that offers 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. Sadly, like the Grand Highlander, Volvo does not have great specials when it comes to buying or leasing the XC90. Buyers can lease the Core T8 AWD from $799 per month for 36 months, with $5,245 due at signing.

VinFast VF9 Rear ViewWhy The VinFast VF9 Reigns Supreme

While the Toyota and Volvo are both nice options as three-row SUVs, the VinFast VF9 is the vehicle that brings more standard equipment for its base price and gives potential customers an easy entry into owning their first electric vehicle, especially one that is so well-suited for families with multiple children and even pets.
